breaking news – our field guide has been upgraded

In 2005, with the help of grants from the then SA Department for Environment and Heritage, the Friends published a field guide, Shrubs and Trees of the Great Victoria Desert, by Marlene Friebe and Bill Matheson. The book described 50 of the more common trees and shrubs in the area. Some, like the wonderful Marble Gum, Eucalyptus gonglyocarpa, are only found in the GVD. The book proved to be of great interest to outback travellers and it had several printings.

This popular field guide has now been completely revised and expanded by Friends member and retired botanist Manfred Jusaitis.  The new edition covers 54 plants with upgraded descriptions and greatly improved photographs.

The price of the new edition has been kept to a minimum  – $13 per copy (plus postage) if you purchase by contacting our treasurer here.  The wholesale price to booksellers, roadhouses and others purchasing in bulk is $10 per copy plus postage.
